XSitePro and Search Engine
Optimisation
As part of my every day business I run 1stChoicePromotions.com which has been offering search engine optim=isation since the late
90's
Although i still optimise a large number of my sites manually there are some tools
i use such as SEO Elite and XSitePro to optimize sites
XSitePro will help you with your on-page SEO attempts. remmember
each page is different so we are talking about pages, not sites. You MUST
optimize your pages individually for them to rank well.
XSitePro's built-in SEO module gives you a ton of information. This
includes:
- The density of your chosen keyword or phrase for the main areas of
your content (e.g. page title, page description, top third, entire page
etc)
- The word count of your page, broken down into words (e.g. The word 'xsitepro'
occurs 21 times)
- The low down on your heading tags (H1, H2, H3 and H4)
- The correct use of the ALT tag for your images
- How you're using the links on your page
- Hints and tips about how to better optimize your web pages
Now, when you look at all of these things, it's comprehensive and can put a lot of
people off. Whilst some of the in-built rules that XSitePro uses for its SEO module
are now a little outdated, the basic premise is the same; XSitePro's SEO module is
very good for on-page optimization.
But this is where most people come unstuck. They don't really understand SEO, and
they assume that by following the guidelines set by XSitePro they will end up and the top
of the search engines. But SEO is about on-page and off-page optimization… and
off-page optimization is the key to ranking well.
The most important factor in gaining a top-10 position on any big-name search
engine is the number of relevant in-bound links you have to your web pages. After all, if
no one is linking to your website then the SEs won't consider your website
important.
And why should they? Just because your pages are well optimized and loaded with
relevant material, it doesn't mean people actually want to read your content.
However, if you've got, for example, 500 other websites all pointing to you, then
the SEs are going to think 'hey, this website must have something relevant here otherwise
all these other web pages wouldn't be linking to it. In that case, we'll stick it on
page one.'
So there you have it. XSitePro's SEO module is very good, especially for an add-on
module which you're getting for free with the software. But don't expect it to get you to
the top of the search engine results pages. For that you need good off-page optimization
more than anything else.
Sidenote: Now you know you need good quality incoming links to rank well, how
about checking out the best software available to help you achieve it? Take a look
at SEO Elite. It will aid your SEO attempts with your XSitePro websites.
